Welcoming the Spring

((Crap. I didn't intend to write that much. xD;; ))

The morning air seemed fresh and crisp, and Mahomett rose from his bed, and went about his daily cleansing. As he washed his face in the waterfall, his reflection gave back confusion, as his once brown strand of hair had turned green. He played with it for a moment, wonder what in the world could have caused such a change. But shaking his head in defeat, he began the trek back to his home.

Despite his divided attention, and confusion, when mah saw a visitor knocking upon his door he instantly snapped from his day-dream and raised a hand in greeting.

"Hello there, Lynn." He said, observing her entirely green attire, aside from her usual socks and shoes.

To her chest, she clung onto cloth, as she had once done in the darkness of the church when they first met one another. She smiled up at him, and held the clothing up.

"It's time for the spring cleansing." She said, as the man took the clothes. "As an outsider, I didn't think you'd know about it, but it seems you've already gotten a start." She said, bubbling with excitement as she opened his door and walked inside.

"Uh.. What is the spring cleansing?" He asked, unfolding the cloth to reveal a white shirt similar to his sand colored one, and a green tie, to replace his read one.

The girl laughed and turned, explaining the event to him as he walked behind a set of standing curtains, changing into the new clothes.

"As the spring comes in and nature is reborn, the people of this village cleanse our homes, and ourselves, as an act of asking for forgiveness from the divine for our sinful lives." She said with a smile at Mah, who walked out in his new white and green garb. "I'm not sure if you believe in all that, but I wanted you to feel like you're one of us."

She finished with a smile as she brought from behind her, a previously unnoticed broom, that was tied off with green ribbon. Mah smiled at the sentiment, and nodded as the two began the cleaning.

The day had darkened, and with their cleaning done, Lynn had left for home. the man looked in at his home, smiling at it in content. It felt cleaner, and more like home than anything had ever felt to him.

The man sank down into a chair, thinking about all that had happened in his time there. How close he had become to a human, and how, even as the winter was dying, the frigid air that the two had first spoken in seemed to linger still, as if the moment had never ended.

Without any warning, he shot up, thinking he Must repay the kindness. He had never though of doing such a thing, not once in all of his existence. But this time was different, and he set out of his home, still in his cleansing clothes as he scoured the earth for flowers.

Maybe the ritual had really cleansed him, maybe he was absolved of all the wrong doing he'd done. He thought as he plucked flowers from the Earth. He was unsure, of whether or not he really would ever fit in as Lynn hopped, but he returned to his home, wrapping the flowers in green paper before walking into the dimly lit village.

The few straggling people who remained outside starred at him, and he questioned a few of them as to the location of the girl he'd been looking for.

"Oh, 'er. She lives o'er yonder in the church." Explained on of the paupers, pointing to the church where the two had met.

Mahomett had wondered why he'd always seen her there the rare times he visited. But now it made sense to him as he walked up to the imposing doors of the church and knocked heavily, feeling the vibrations echo on the inside. The door slowly opened moments later, a half awake Lynn standing on the other side.

The man bowed slightly and presented her with the flowers.

"A token of my appreciation, for all that you have done for me in my time here." he said as she clutched them gently, her eyes seemingly glowing as she wrapped her arms around his neck.

She spoke simply, and sincerely, punctuating the night with a note of sweet innocence.

"Thank you."
